Picked up someones Razor sliced - edged checked dump today...

So some fool had the bank order a box of halves for him, sliced the rolls open with a razor so he could edge check them, then dumped them right back at the same bank! I had already agreed to buy them before I saw them and will not change my mind after seeing that they are dumps.

Well the first roll I opened up had a 40% half in it. The last roll had a 2 40s and a Ben! This folks is why that whole slice the roll method just doesn't work.

Also got a couple more 40s from some teller trays at other banks and for the first time got crimp rolls that were not yellow. They were a greenish brown, I thought they were going to be Brinks, but it didn't say Brinks on the label like I think they usually do. I don't have an account at the bank so they only let me buy $200 of the $500 box they had there. The 20 rolls I got were skunks.

Last found some like that a citi bank in white plains ny , have never gotten any 90%ers in a slice dump tho

Being an edge searcher myself, I find it hard to believe that someone would razor the roll. Even an experienced edger such as myself needs to sound check. Slice and search is dumb.

Just throwing an alternative possibility out there: I have gotten several "sliced" rolls over the course of my CRHing...a few of which contained obvious, unmistakable silver right in the middle of the split. A few weeks ago, I accidentally learned how this happened. I was carrying 2 boxes to my truck. As I opened the passenger side door to lay them in the seat, I tilted the box, the end of the box fell out and about 10 rolls hit the paved parking lot. Every single one of them split from end to end in a perfect line that I would have guessed was done with a razor had I not just seen it happen.

I find slicing is the easiest way to open the rolls and to get the coins back in. I will usually slice the rolls and edge search, and then after I'm done edge searching go back through, remove the coins and search, and then put them back in and tape it shut. Trying to undo one end of the roll and close it back just doesn't seem to work for me.

Trying to undo one end of the roll and close it back just doesn't seem to work for me.

I use a small flathead screwdriver to pry up and open most of the roll. I push the coins out, give them the sound check, then slide about half back in; push them to the end then add the rest. Fast and accurate. Used to do the same with dimes.

I would have a problem with the whole razor blade thing. One wrong move...ouch. Then taking time to tape rolls. If it works for you great.

I cant see how one could miss while cutting them open. When I cut them open, I go down the line, each one and look for bright copper. If I cant clearly see bright copper I check. I wonder if I really am missing any.
