Pieces of the Holy Land.

I took a little spin around my local thrift store yesterday and came across this shadow box of items someone gathered from a trip to the Holy Lands in 1976. They labeled and tagged each item with a number and pasted a list on the back as to where each item was picked up. Some of the pieces are in need of being put back it their correct spot, which should be easy, because the back is attached with woodscrews and all the pieces look to be still inside. I thought it my look good on the wall of my home office downstairs with other odd things I've collected in the secondhand market.

I live here now, in Jerusalem. It's an amazing place to be. I've found old pottery, but never any thing really worth anything yet.

Very cool find. It's nice that they kept a list where they found it. (Side note... Certain areas, as an Israeli Jew, I'm not allowed in Jericho and Bethlehem are off limits, with large signs warning me, DO NOT ENTER.)

How awesome you live there in a land with such history. I wondered if a person today could freely gather these type of souvenirs today without be scolded.

Tamrock, I was thinking this same thing a few days ago when you first posted this thread, but didn't want to sound like a Debbie Downer or politically motivated. It would have just been an observation, I am not woke or too vocal in about my conservative values............unless you thread on the 2nd. 😈😈😈

Depends. I personally know someone who found something interesting and never reported it.

In certain areas, there's so much pottery, they don't seem to care. There's an archeological site, Nabi Samuel. I found a pottery handle in a pile of garbage rocks that I brought home. The beaches of Caesarea have tons.

My friend visits every summer... This year she's bringing a foldable shovel in her luggage. I've sorta been checking out places where she can dig. Her dream is to find a coin...

This collection I have was gathered in 1976 before the Israel's antiquities law of 1978. None of this collection I would consider of real importance. To me it's rather interesting knowing where each item was found. The year 1976 is the summer I hitch hiked from Neola, Iowa to the San Francisco Bay area of California. That's a trip I'll always remember as it was done on a dare experience. I got a job right away out there fixing and servicing the many big rolling steel and large commercial garage doors all around the Bay area. The sights I witnessed around that area will be forever be etched in my mind. One thing I often recall is a diner we would have lunch at when in the area. There was this older fella that seemed to be there every time we stopped there for lunch. He would order his coffee at the counter and after they brought it to him he would walk over to the jukebox and push the buttons for Tony Bennett's song, I Left My Heart in San Francisco every time we were there. Thinking about it. It was always a relaxing tune to have lunch with.
