Pin numbering on 4pin M12 Amphenol LTW A/B/D Code - Excal coil connector

The cable is to large for the the stock endcap strain relief connector, If I remember correct if you go with the stock strain relief you will have to drill it out to get the WOT cable thru... the WOT cable is like 7.5mm? where as the stock is 6.5mm?

Me... Best to go with the larger New Heyco strain relief .. which I can not remember the size, I know the replacement for the stock is Heyco (3237), the larger maybe (3251)? Its been a long time since I messed with that stuff so I'm forgetting the part numbers. And you will need a 1/2npt to tap the larger heyco. I did several WOT coil installs, and I had one myself. Nice coil for out of the water hunting.. Great coverage, and good depth.

I haven't even got to the strain relief issue yet, I'm still struggling with the wire gauge issues. Yes, the WOT cable measures at 7.6 mm outer diam. Almost too thick for the connector, much force and wiggling just to get it inserted past the ends. Then there's the issue or the WOT's wires thickness. The black and red wires measure to be 16 gauge. The orange and white wires are 18 gauge. All way too big for this connector's 22 gauge rating. Then there is the issue of the wires inside not being oriented for this connector. This connector needs the red and Black wires right next to each other. And also the white and orange wires next to each other. and the red and orange next to each other, and the black and white wires next to each other. But the cable has the red and black at opposing sides in the cable jacket, as well as the white and orange wires opposite of where they need to be. Why all this matters, the connector has no room whatsoever to accommodate crossovers. Dang!!!! But I have a work around, but it is probably unorthodox. I'll attempt it anyway.

He is wrong, I worked for both the Minelab Repair center, and for the Kellyco Repair center, we installed Coiltek WOT coils on Excalibur IIs as well as Nel, Detech, and Coiltek coils sold for the Sovereign.

The Excalibur Sword, Excalibur and Excalibur II, and all Sovereigns are BBS, you can take a stock coil straight off the original Excalibur sword and put it on an Excal or Excal II and it will work, and you can take a coil off Excal II and put it on the Excal sword or the excal and both will work.

Just FYI, OBN knows what he is talking about, so I highly recommend you listen to his advice anytime he gives it.
Not surprised about the dealer info being wrong. He probably wanted to sell a different coil.

OBN, now that you mentioned it, doesn't this coil do great submerged in salt water, I believe Sandscoopdan specifically wanted this for that. Which is why I'm struggling to keep this IP68/69 (or better) waterproof. :icon_scratch:

To be honest It has a lot to do with location (water salinity) and ones age. I had no problems on the dry and wetsand. Deep, smooth running with high sensitivity. Once mine hit the salt water I had to turn the sensitivity down a few numbers. Which does cost you depth. Also swinging that big coil in the water wore me out. I had the same issue when I ran the ULT 13 also, great depth on targets on the dry n wetsand once in the saltwater I had sensitivity issues ( no matter the settings) and swinging in the water I did not care for.
Also, I never liked the inline connectors but they have come a long ways.. I used the Bulgin IP68 series ..2011? , which were not the best in my opinion. Once I went to the endcaps I made using 3m SS M12 code A 4 pin things were silent, 2014..

On the wet sand I could run it Hot..

Good Luck!

I've had various coils on my Excaliburs over the years and found that the NEL 15" Attack coil to have the best performance in salt water for a big coil. It also was better than the WOT in dry and wet sand. Quieter and deeper at any sensitivity setting. In fact, I could almost always run it flat out. A smaller coil in the water is quieter at a given sensitivity and easier to swing though.

Yeah man, I know what you mean about that coil relief wrapped around things you won’t be able to get that back on it. That’s the problem having them with that big coil. I did read something. I think it was the one in one of Clive‘s books, I’m gonna see if I can find it again and see if I can repeat it but I found something else too where there are two different parts and you put them together and then you heat shrink all the way down to the heat shrink from all the way down to the base of the coil and then you can heat shrink didn’t cut just a little bit of that spiral wrap. I’m gonna take some pictures and show you what I’m talking about. I found some he shrink material that’s it’s why I don’t want thinner on the other. This is the kind of stuff I’m gonna use on on the to waterproof all the connectors and stuff like that once I started looking at this something man this is way too many too many connector points of entry to for water ingress and that makes me really nervous man but I did read something about that. I think maybe OBN made a post a few months back about something like that different things you can do is a method shoot man I’m I’m gonna give it a try and see what I can do and get the best information I can and collect it altogether in my notebook and and I’ll post again okay?
