pinpointer is it a necessary item

Saves Time!

What made me get one was my oldest find got a gash in it from my digger!
It let's you know when you are getting close so you don't damage coins!

I also use the Propointer, there is a youtube video I guy put out about detuning it when you get close to an object that it a pretty good trick.

In the sixties I worked on a framing crew during the summer. Boss brings a compressor and a nail gun to the job.......The old carpenter hands said "no way, thats a waste of time"........long story short, they started nailing decking with the new toy.....they never looked back!

Do you hear many carpenters saying they wouldn't build a house without those things? They might end up hungry if they develop that mentality. Were those carpenters doing a good job before compressors and a nail guns? Necessity is the word here. I use compressors and a nail guns, and they are nice tools to have, but I can build just as good a house without them. I certainly wouldn't turn down a job because I didn't have these things.

Contrary to Uncle Rico's passionately dogmatc statement above, what it boils down to is what kind of hunting you are doing, where you are hunting, and how good you are at retrieval. Granted there are times when locating a lead buck shot may be easier to locate with a pin pointer, may save 30 seconds, but who cares!

After all someone once said, different strokes for different folks. Enjoy your hobby, with or without a pinpointer!

Good point......my point was it just makes it easier....and I like to hear the pro pointer beep....it gives me a rush...lol

I hunt with guys that say they don't need one, but they sure borrow it alot. Seems easier to teach new guys not to make or leave a mess. Plus grandkids love playing with the darn thing.

A handheld pinpointer isn't about finding where to dig exactly...

It's when you have a 4 inch hole already opened up, and still dont have your target, knowing its an angled coin/bottlecap in the side of the hole somewhere.. Pinpointer is a big time saver at that point.
