in the "real" old west there was none of the "hollywood" high noon shoot out stuff -- only one event even came close (the famous wild bill "watch" shoot out)-- shot in the back from a nearby alley with a sawed off double barrel -- more likely then not was how many bad outlaw"gunman" died --since few "normal" folks were fool enough to try to draw on a stone cold killer.. -- dead was dead -- and when dealing with murders and theives there was no "code of honor" to follow -- shoot first , shoot straight , shoot often (untill they were dead) -- since wounded enemies if they lived , even if badly maimed once they recovered could "back shoot" or bushwhack you later -- you couldn't afford the risk of that --to always be "looking over your shoulder" might make you miss what danger lie ahead of you.

the ok corral was not a one on one high noon gunfight -- it was more of a "mob" war althought it is kind of high noonish in the fact that it occured in day light and was fairly heads up --close quarters battle.

I was speaking of the classic one on one high noon type of "hollywood" gunfight -- I admit that the ok correl was the major big time multi player daytime shoot out ala hollywood style -- that and maybe the bushwhack attack by the town folk on the bank robbing gang in minnesota .

according to my CCH instructor, cops only hit what they aim at 1% of the time. while the bad guys are hitting
at about 60%. maybe that's why cops blow off about 50 rounds before they hit somebody, but the bad guys shoot one clip and get at least 3 hits

I think it is more that they both get their ammo for free
where guys like me have to pay with hard earned cash for thier ammo

so I anyway hit what I aim at 99.9 percent of the time
and I know some friends in law enforcement that are just as good as I am.
we practice together hitting snake heads swimming in water

smokeless powder was post ok corral -- so there was lots of "blackpowder type " clouds of gun smoke and dust in the air from the stage coach that had just ran by -- the "good guys" actually used the dust cloud kicked up by the passing stagecoach as cover to move in rapidly on the bad guys --- as the dust settled opps there they were eye to eye -- in short it was nuts -- several men at near point blank range blasting away -- 32 shots fired in a very short amount of time most at nearly in your face close range .

can you imagine how dirty a gun would have gotten back then
