Found this on a house site that has given up coins and relics dating from 1740 to 1910. The majority of the items where this was dug date between 1810 and 1860 more or less. This one has me stumped. Any ideas? Thanks a million for any help.

Perhaps it's part of a lamp wick guide?

Isnt it a star locknut for a lamp or fixture?
