I dug this up today and about 2 feet away I dug up an 1854 upper Canadian bank token. Both were deep, I have only found 2 civil war items but never an eagle button. And this one isn't smashed or nothing. Any input would be great. Thanks I would have put the post in buttons or whatzit but this page gets more traffic.

According to Alphaeus Alberts Record of American uniform buttons, your button was made after 1884, therefore it is an Indian Wars button. BUT, still an excellent find and one to be proud of.

Congrats on the button find...and your video still makes me laugh when I think about it.

YUP, Civil war era eagle button, remember, most of the Soldiers who went west (I presume in Montana(?) were likely wearing civil war era uniforms, buttons would be the same.
