Sat. morning Koleen and I planned to hit a few sites. We started at a city lot where a house had been torn down. We found clad and mostly junk. After a while, tired of the constant traffic noise, we headed for a cornfield that I secured permission to hunt this summer. The corn was recently picked so it was finally a green light for MDing. There was a ton of corn stubble and it was troublesome to work around and through, but soon I found clock parts, a harmonica reed, and pieces of orange brick. Eventually I got a good steady signal (28 in digital mode.) I dug down and saw a large coin and called Koleen over. Regretfully, I had forgotten to bring my camera. Brushing the dirt off it showed an 1850 large cent. Huzzah! (I had driven past this field last week and told my daughter there was a LC waiting for me in the corn stubble.
) After a break and quick lunch, we hit another old yard (1873+) and found clad, a metal trim strip
, a funky buckle, and a nice Tootsie Toy jeep. It had been my goal this fall to find at least one LC before the ground freezes and the snow flies.
HH and thanks for looking,

pic 3 - the front is pretty toasted (fertilizer?) but at least the date is readable
