I've always used AMD processors, sure the Intel ones crush them in several different ways, but the top end AMD processor is less than 300 bucks, on the other hand the top end Intel processors are Always right around a grand.
Plenty of people will buy them, mostly the over clocking crowd will all the time, for they absolutely have to squeeze out every last drop of performance they can get from their games. A few extra frames per second means a lot to some people, I can't justify the price difference.

Price is a biggy for me! Most of these are running dual 3.0, daughter's is dual 3.4, and mine is quad 3.8. The grandson and son do most of the gaming. Since my son does quite a bit of gaming (online and off), I guess I should let him have this quad 3.8. I don't do much gaming. Mostly music, forums, and email. I have a couple of games that I play, but not often. Diablo II occasionally and Sid Meier's 'Pirates, Live the Life' couple a times a week for an hour or two. I play spider solitaire probably more than any other game. Just intermediate level. I watch for sales/bargains on parts. I caught the quad 3.8 for under a $100 a few weeks ago. Same with most of the main boards; what ever that I can find at a bargain, but good quality.
I also play online poker (for 'fun money' of course) with PokerStars.

I just read thru 8 pages of the BS and free speech went out the window years ago. I once got put in the time out chair for free speech, theres 2 things that dont belong on treasure hunting website, religion & politics, theres plenty of places on the web for that, here shouldnt be one of them......but then thats my 1st Amendment Right to say that.

Sid Meier's pirates!!!!! Like man! Best damn game ever made, I still reinstall that every now and then.
Diablo 2 man, best blizzard game ever, been playing Diablo 3 lately, sucks compared to D2.

Yeh, my grandson plays III some. I've seen just enough to know that I'm not interested! Mike, should we maybe PMing each other on this or email? I kinda hate to think what others are thinking about us taking up the forum so much with our 'personal' banter.

I say have at it!
It's a free country...
speaking of computers.
AMD Quad cores work great, they just need a big heat sink/fan. I use 500 watt + Power supply.
Go with the 64 bit version of windows, allows me to run 8 gigs of memory. Vista or 7, XP support is fading fast.
Never windows 8, that was designed for a touch screen. Sucks.
always back up your data to a portable Hard drive, because its not if a crash, virus etc. will happen...it's when!
