It's inevitable that in time copper will become what silver was - yes there's a lot more of it , but the fact of the matter is, as China, India, and Brazil/Russia grow and modernize, the consumption rates will skyrocket of ALL precious metals - dont forget, eacch has an industrial use as well (except maybe gold, ironically)

I'm not saying just blindly buy buy buy at the peaks, but I am acquiring silver on pullbacks and just storing it away. If we get a parabolic move in metals, such as we had in certain internet stocks in the late 90's or real estate in the mid 2000's - Im talking several hundred percent - THEN maybe I will hit the bid, but in truth I don't need the immediate profits and I don't want to miss the gains over time. Buy it, store it, stack it, maybe coo softly at the pile and rub it with a diaper once in a while. Thats it.

As gold and silver prices rise out of the reach of affordability for more and more people, copper will play an increasing role as a semi-precious metal. By the time most people wake up to this fact, most of the copper cents will already have been culled from circulation by hoarders and speculators. It'll be like what happened with silver coins after the minting of them ended, it will just take a lot longer after the minting of the copper coins ended for this to become apparent.

It's a lot easier to find them in quantity now than it will be years from now. They don't cost a lot to collect at this point, and they're easy to store and care for. They certainly don't eat much :laughing9:

I have been saving them for a long time. The odds are definately in favor of this being a good investment.

I'm not much for copper bullion in other forms (as they aren't easily made liquid), and I certainly would never buy sorted cents from others.

I agree.Copper is a great investment at face value,but! Only when and if the melt ban goe's away.As the survival guy's prefer nickels due to the non sorting issue,the pennies have a higher melt value.After you sort them!

BTW, there is nothing illegal about hoarding copper.

never meant to imply hoarding was illegal. Just stating that til the ban is lifted,they are only worth face value.

I think that sorting cents is a good investment, but I'm not sure that the yields will continue long enough to justify the expense of an automatic sorter like the Ryedale. Its silly not to sort cents, especially pocket change. But I'm not sure that the Ryedale is going to be worth it in the medium-long term.

The answer choice was meant in jest :wink:

Well, instead of a Ryedale, you could just buy a used coin hopper similar to this;

and connect its output chute to the input of a coin comparitor similar to this Coinalyzer;

This same sort of setup can also be used to sort silver and foreign coins out of dimes, quarters, or halves. Great for going through bags or boxes of coins quickly. I ordered the pieces, now waiting for them to arrive.

I've got some copper stored away, not a lot, but I'm going to keep stashing them. I don't search boxes of pennies yet, but I probably will start soon. There will eventually be a higher demand for copper, and it is cheap to hoard. No where near as expensive to hoard pennies as it is to hoard halves.

I sure hope that its a wise investment, as I've got about 15,000 of the suckers and I'm adding several hundred per week. Sorting coppers also nets me a few wheats every week, several hundred over time.
