Poll - Would you "do the right thing"?

You don't have to post your answer

Just wondering what you all think. This is just a hypothetical question, lets say you found a diamond ring and it was appraised at $1,500 in a city park and their is a full name inscribed on the inside band. Would you try to track down the owner and give it back or would you keep it for yourself?

I'll be the first to admit that I keep everything I find. :icon_pirat:

*My only exception would be if someone asks me to help them find something and they have an exact description or a precise identifiable detail of the lost item.

And YES !! we would have returned it if she had been there..

But we heard stories of people on the beach approuching guys with detectors and saying "We lost such and such here... " and the guy acting like he did not find it, but actually he did...
This was not me.....
and this was only hearsey...

Re: Poll - Would you "do the right thing"?

Have you guys found anything that belongs to me?

My name is "E Pluribus Unum"
:tongue3:

Re: Poll - Would you "do the right thing"?

Excuse me did you just find a gold ring?

Why yes I did, why?

Oh I just lost mine not 10min ago and would like it back.

Can you describe it for me in detail?

Yea no problem, its gold, it may have 1 diamond or more, its round and has a hole for my finger...

Well then this must be yours, here you go. Glad I could help.

Oh yea thats it!!! Thanks you just made my day!!!

:laughing7:

Re: Poll - Would you "do the right thing"?

If they can describe the ring to a T with identifying marks I would return it, I have already done so and refused the reward, but just telling me it's gold and has diamonds in it just want cut it......I am not going to show it to someone who can't identify it before I show it. I am not paying to run an ad in the paper either.....

There are people who will see you recover a ring then say it is theirs, even though it doesn't fit their finger, nor can they identify it to a T, which is why when I recover a ring I don't usually do "the happy dance" right then showing it around, the ring goes in my finds pouch in the hidden compartment. Happy dance in my mind when I am there, happy dance on the way home.....

Even finding the rightful owner of a ring with an inscription on it down here is not an easy thing to do most times either, visitors here at the beaches are not just from Florida or the country, but from all over the world. We easily get 10,000 or more visitors a day on each major beach here during beach season, and that is just on non holidays. On the holidays it runs 10 times that.....Daytona Beach is 23 miles long and I have seen it wall to wall people as far as you could see in each direction....

How many rings are lost each day with that many people on the beaches??? :icon_scratch: :headbang: :laughing7:

Kermit, you know that happened to me, and the screamer did not the goods. Though she described the ring perfectly in her shrill urban voice.

"It'sth gold, round and got a hole in it where they finger goes" was her actual response. Followed of course by her threat to call the police, which I invited her to do.

And that's how I learned not to post my number in the "Found" section of the paper. That does not keep me for looking for an owner if at all possible because I've got time to spare between watching the grass grow and cutting plugs in it.

Re: Poll - Would you "do the right thing"?

I had this happen already. It didn't have a diamond but it was a giant 14K sold gold man's ring. The biggest ring I've ever seen.

I found it years ago when I really needed the money. I always wondered what I'd do and I quickly sought out and found the owner.

I don't see myself as good or anything. It was funny though, keeping it wasn't even an option. I guess it would be that same way today.

Some of us are just dumb I guess.

I lost my wedding ring in the gulf of mexico on my honeymoon. Luckily, I found it within a few hours. Had I not found it, I just might be there still looking for it. It is a special ring to me and is the first thing I put on every morning. I will wear it till I die. How can you put a price on that? ???

By the way, we have internet now. If you spend $300.00 searching for somebody...well you get my drift. :tongue3:

Oh yeah, I forgot, the title says would you do "the right thing". How many of you actually know what that means. :icon_scratch: Not many, if I'm reading the replies correctly. :-\

Go back and read my original reply and then read the replies that follow. What the hell did I say to make you go off on me like you did?

By the way, I'm full grown, if you want to try me.
