I found this at at a local garage sale. being a small community you must hit every sale.
A guy standing next to me said...it's for a Mercedes boat.
It says VDO Made in Germany. I ignore him....but I'm listening.

It turns out it is a Euro Porsche 356 (speedster) speedometer. 3 Currently on eBay. 800, 895 and 1495. This one is in better shape. I had to...it just looked well made, high quality.
Oh hell yeh!!

Very nice! How much did you pick it up for?

5 bucks.
There are so few garage/estate sale here I now hit them all. How did a speedometer from a Porsche 356 speedster end up here....we will never know.

Quite a score, good eye!

Great condition and low mileage.

Great find!

That would be 41,069 kilometers, right? If so, that's not much over 26,000 miles, low mileage indeed!

'What's found where' is one of the mysteries of garage sale finds, those stories can be interesting in their own right.

All imported cars, regardless of country of origin, sold in the US by the original foreign car dealers are miles only.

Formerly owned an Austin Healey, MGTC, Sunbeam Alpine, Porsche Speedster and a TR6...all in miles...

Also currently have several reconditioned speedometers and tachs for MGTC, MGTD and Triumph TR6 that date from 1947 to 1976, all in miles.

Congrats on a great find and score! At only $5, you will be saying cha-ching, cha-ching, cha-ching all the way to the Bank.

OV,

That's quite the catch you made.....time to start a 2nd career at garage/estate sale buys......just have to broaden your search area a bit more.

I doubt that this one is in miles. If it were, the speed would be in mph, not kh/m. It could have been from a car brought back to the States by a service member, or from a car imported to Canada.

Definitely kilometers. I always check out any gauges I see at garage sales. Havent found anything like your though.

Love it! Thanks for sharing. Great find!!!!!!!!!!!

Now we will see how much I can get for it. I'am guessing an overseas buyer might be interested, so I will have to review the "do not ship to" countries. I have not found any in the sold listings, so I won't be pricing this one as high as the 3 on eBay.
