positive feedback but comments are 'didnt pay'?

I'm pretty new to eBay selling but so far it's OK. I just sold an item for $200 but the seller has not paid and I've contacted him twice.

His feedback was all positive but in the comments there were multiple entries saying seller did not pay. Why do people give positive feedback when the seller does not pay?

I just logged a case.

Never mind...didn't know that you cannot give negative feedback to a buyer.

I think you're not even supposed to leave false positives like that.

Good job opening the case. If those people would have opened a non-payer case and set it to block anyone with 2 or more, they wouldn't have had the issue in the first place. I just checked my data and it shows it auto-blocked a 0 feedback buyer with too many unpaid strikes. Definitely not the person I want buying my items!

I can't agree with this more. I was having a real problem with non-paying bidders. I had a monitor that I sold 4 times before I got paid. I set my buyer requirements so that the bidder must have a paypal account to bid, and cannot have more than two non-paying strikes in 6 months. Haven't had a non-paying bidder in the last month.

Buyer never paid and case was close. Is there a reason why a seller would not want to open a case?

I can't think of one. I open a case as soon as possible every time, unless they contact me and let me know it's going to be a few days. Setting up the restriction on your listing cuts down on the non-paying bidders big time. I especially like the one that says 'must have a paypal account'. A noob bidding on your item when they don't even have a way to pay already set up is destined to be trouble.

There is also a un-paid auto assistant, you can set, to automatically open a case for non-paying bidders.
I have mine set to 7 days. You can also turn it "off", if an individual buyer lets you know they may be late paying.
I've only had one non-payer over the last yr, and she only had 2 feedbacks, so I figured it was a newbie.
And, all of what meanpc says..... set your criteria to filter at least the "2 non-paying bids" ppl, and set your non-pay auto assistant, to open any cases.
Good luck, too.
