Found this on Saturday Metal Detecting, piece of iron, tapered. I cleaned it up now I'm wondering if it's broken piece from a bayonet?

Oldest area finds, square nails, and an 1854 Seated dime, A friend of mine from two musketballs not too far from this location. My area has a lot of revolutionary war
history.

Thanks for looking.

Possibly. Civil War socket bayonets were three sided and a cross section would look like a triangle with the sides slightly concave. The bottom side would be slightly wider and slightly less concave than the two upper ones. Austrian bayonets used in the CW were four sided. Not sure if Revolutionary war bayonets were made the same. Someone will know.
