Possible cannonball

I just moved into a house built in 1875 that belonged at one time to a Civil War Cavalry vet. I found what looks like a cannonball in the cellar. It weighs about 16 lbs, and is 15-3/4 diameter.

I have a solid shot 18 pounder(5 inches across).So your ball must be hollow to be 16 pounds at 15 inches across,unless its made of something lighter than iron.
