I found what I think is a partial button today. I found it in a town called Ft. Meade which used to have a civil war fort (Ft. Meade) which once had Gen. Jackson as a resident. My question is could this button be from the civil war or later? Anyway, it's a cool find! Thanks for any replies!

Hi; Yours is a 2 piece button which makes it newer than 1820. I believe yours dates to the Civil War due to where it was found. I'm hesitant to say definetly due to the lack of design. Most I know of have a Rope and Anchor design on them. At any rate the value is zero due to condition ok. PEACE:RONB

I'm going with it being a fashion button. I can't find anything that matches in my books and the overall appearance isn't as crisp and detailed as the military ones.
