Hey Everyone,
TheCannonballGuy "Pete" - This is the item in question

Me and my brother have been detecting a standing homesite that has had an extensive history and was built in 1790. It is still standing to this day and is being lived in by a widowed woman. Her and her husband have lived there for many years. He has now passed. Anyway, before he died he discovered a cannonball while working in his garden. The property has been hunted repeatedly for many years. We gained permission from the homeowner and she said I will give you permission, but just know a lot of people have metal detected here over the years.

Since then, we have only hunted it one time do to our work schedules, etc. The one day we have been there it was getting dusk and starting to rain. So, to get to my question in that short amount of time and what was supposed to be a hunted out site, we dug an artillery button, nice general service coat button, and nice gilded flat button with back mark and quite a bit of other nice bits of era relics.

Now the particular item in question is a heavy lead item that looks like a half of something and notched down the middle and threaded on the side. It seems to be pure lead. Threaded hole may have brass threaded insert but not sure. On the inside of this object it appears to have a faint 6 scratched or etched on it? I am providing pictures of dimensions, weight, and overall pictures for reference. Can you please tell me if this has anything to do with a cannonball, shell, fuse, or other similar ordinance?

It's always wise to enquire about an unknown item, by using the What Is It? forum, before you toss it in the junkpile. Especially, when the item is not made of iron. In this case, the item does look like something "special" rather than junk. But I'm sorry to have to report I'm sure it is not an artillery fuze nor a part of one. Congratulations on finding the civil war era US Artilllery Officer button. :)
