I dug this and we looked at the rev war books this morning,S.C Keith said its possible it might be some kind of local militia from the rev war. I need the experts on this one will post more pics if needed. AROUND 17 MM TO 20 MM is WHAT KEITH SAID. DSCN1281.JPG DSCN1282.JPG DSCN1283.JPG

I can't answer for the button right now, but be sure to preserve that button before it flakes and crumbles. It's pewter.

It sure does look Rev War period Since you already checked the book, I won't bother. Hope you get an ID. You could try putting it on Don Troiani's Rev War FB page.

any suggestions on how to preserve it?
Make a solution of 50/50 Elmers Glue & Water. Brush a coat on, let it dry and repeat 2 or 3 times. You can practice on a piece of junk pewter like a blank button or spoon frag.

Can't help with i.d., but marked like that it very possibly could be.. Either way,, It is a cool oold button. Nice one

That type of button looks 18th century for sure. Don't recognize the design. I haven't seen anything with that design in the literature before.

I sent him the link and he still says the letters are not correct so I guess it will go into the dont know what it is box.
Interesting to see a period button with AC in the center. The material and construction of your button looks period to me, but the letters do look a little odd. Might have to look in Troiani's book to see if there are other examples with similar lettering.
