There is only one way to know.

Sample the area. :)

+1 on DesertNuggets.

And ... if you aren't already carrying a can of bear fogger; you may want to get some.

Hope you make out like a bandit!

Wouldn't surprise me if you found some pickers in those rocks. And look for piles of rock near the mine...they had to put em somewhere. What do you have in the way of equipment and access?

PS I would probably move that boulder at the bottom of the falls first. MMM-MMMM:icon_thumleft:

Yeah there's an old mine at the bottom of the creek all boarded up so we climbed up the creek. I have pans, classifiers, a-52, diving equipment.

water in an old mine is super dangerous...the wood used to timber the shaft an drifts, mixed with water...creates some nasty breathing conditions.

It is possible that it is not a gold mine. What does the county records say for the type of ores coming out of the area? Sweep up the floor area of the mine and along areas that the ore would have been hauled out at. May be lead, copper, molybdenum. Difficult to say. Check out the nearby dump. Get DOWN and DIRTY! Do some detective work and book work. You'll figure it out. Let us know. I am interested in knowing what you find. TTC

I'm pretty positive it's copper that was our huge turn around from gold mining in our area. And I remember reading something some where that they stopped mining copper because it went down stream and polluted the lake. And where I'm at is on top of a mountain over looking the lake lol

What's with the flag painted on the rock in the last pic? Some sort of marker?

Not sure if anyone else sees this but I see a side profile of a face.

Lol.. Nice

It was just some random graffiti it said something but I don't remember it wasn't anything special just a place to tag I guess lol

Great Looking Location

AZViper, might be that the sight of all that water gave you the DT's? I mean you are a desert man after all. Kinda does look like a profile of Alfred E. Neuman*! Yup, I think so. Good spotting!

Hey Tater, that is one lovely location! Follow the advice given so far and you should do alright!.....................63bkpkr

Yeah I think it looks awesome too! But I talked to a local mining shop owner and he said he hasn't heard anything good about that area so it kinda turns me off of the area. Plus it's a sketchy road up to the creek

Unless you have underground experiance stay out of the mine! Like they say " stay out stay alive." Old mines are nothing to fool around with. It's like retorting mercury if you don't know don't do it. With that said it is a very nice spot to check out. Don;t go by what a shop owner tells you. No one is going to tell him if they found a bonanza there. Check it out for yourself.

Good Luck!

I think I may try it out on my days off! Since theres a lot of red clay is that a bad thing?

Hike in with a pan and test, test, test. It looks great! If your west of the lake I would bet there is gold up there.
