Afternoon all you Goblins and Witches,

I'll be showing a few more plummets, increasingly better in quality.

Item: Plummet

Material: Sandstone!?!?

Length: 3 1/2"

Recovery: Poverty Point

I've never seen a sandstone plummet before. Now, what intrigues me is that the material is poor (sandstone is poor material in my book) but the workmanship and symetry is out of sight! The little white spot appears to be a little cortex...it's weird to me.

Enjoy the photos, I'll have some varigated red jasper and some better hematite ones coming soon.

Thanks for looking,

spot

One other thing; be sure to check out the hole detail in the second photograph. You will be able to see the little concentric rings inside the hole created when the reed and sand cut their way through.

That's why my photos are large; to me, being able to really see the detail on authentic relics makes for a better lesson and more fun in the viewing!

Be safe out trick or treating!

Nice Plummet spot. We find quite a few Plummets here in southern Ohio. Most of them are made from Hematite, but we also find quite a few made from sandstone. Ours aren't drilled though and are usually just grooved around the top or around the center if they are Egg Shaped.

That's a nice find, Spot! Thank you for sharing it with us.
I found my first plummet this summer while we were in Maine. Our house is on the same property as a Red Paint People Site. Archeologists did a dig there back in the 30s. It's nice when something still turns up.

Congrats on your find, Spot.
Thanks for sharin'

That's a fine plummet Spot. Keep them coming, I'm anxious to see more. I stopped by the Poverty Point museum about 10 years ago and was amazed at some of the plummets in there!!

Nice plummets. They are one of my favorite items.
Not too much sandstone around here, but there's limerock, the good, the bad and the ugly... :D
