I have a few hundred of them. I keep the really clean ones and through the rest back.
I edge search, the proofs have a clean wider rim with finer reeding.

Yea proofs are marked with an S mark, unless its a real old one i think...(before 64 or so?)

I find them fairly often... this week only 1, but ive come home with a whole roll of them before too...

proofs are not common, and that coin's a beauty!

Thanks for info, i literally roll hunt as I have yet to purchase a box. Picture was not as clears as I liked, but I too was impressed with the condition. I went through 20 rolls with this as only good find. However it's worth more than my 69 half I found last week. With silver prices dropping (not too concerned) its always nice to find a numismatic value coin! :)

I used to have a bunch - pretty - but I threw 'em back. Didn't break my heart.

Are the proofs from circulation worth anymore than 50 cents? I have several, even a bicentennial one, was just saving them because they are nicely struck coins.

Take all your proofs and build an album and sell it at a premium. eBay, yard sale, local flea market - doesn't matter the venue but I'll bet if you have a decent album with clear plastic pages (I have an old Harco I am thinking of using that way) as opposed to a cheap Whitman you could bring in better than $1/coin, maybe $2/ea or better, from someone with a wallet as big as their eyes.

Proofs have eye appeal, far better than a 'mere' MS-65. Anyone who fell for the state quarter program would be ecstatic about something they would see as a hot deal. Littleton sells state quarters for at least 10x face and that's basement level pricing. Joe Sixpack would think 6x face for half dollar proofs in a show album might be just the thing for his football buddies to drool in envy over.

Rascal

Most proofs found in circulation are only worth face value. However , I have sold a few for a profit. :cat:

I find proofs here and there but not nearly as many as other folks on here do - maybe they are searching big volumes. At this point I save them all - I put 'em in 2x2 flips and drop them into a coin collection binder. I have not found any duplicates yet. If I end up finding a lot of these maybe I'll throw them back too, but for now they are keepers. The only interesting thing I throw back are NIFCs (unless I need them for my collection).

Picked up a box of pennies for first time today. Figured it was low risk, little expedature. 8 wheaties , and 91, 93 s Lincoln

Nice finds!! Thanks for sharing the pics, I've never seen a penny proof before.

Thanks. It's a first for me too. I was only expecting wheaties, and maybe a IH. They are incredibly shiny and almost as thick as a nickel. Two very good years for one cent proofs from the 1990's. 💰

I found some pennies on the coin counter machine yesterday. Actual pennies not cents. Blows mind what people leave behind

This is a penny proof:

I'll stay away from the whole penny/cent battle as that is a thread invader/killer. However, I am a stranger to foreign coins, and was wondering what marks yours as a proof? I don't expect to see an S, obviously, so what is the mark? Could it be a "no mark" ? Could it be I'm missing it? I am genuinely curious.

Making a guess I'm going to say its the high mirror finish.

It is not mine, but a stock photo from online. However, the mirror finish makes it a proof. Keep in mind that pre-1968 US proofs were made in Philadelphia, with no mintmark, so you can only tell by the finish too. The UK is good enough to have proofs that have a good mirror finish. Some countries don't, making it hard to distinguish a proof.

That half proof is a cool find. Some people may find a lot of them but I have only found one proof cent so far. I have not really searched a lot of cents compared to a lot of other people but I have been through a few boxes so far this year. I would hold onto it because it looks good.
