public land to prospect for gold on?

in north GA? and also what kind of permits do I need? and where can I obtain them? thanks

You can pan and sluice in the national forest but unfortunately, that area is north of the gold bearing strata in Georgia. I found some garnets there though. Another option is to join a gold miners club as there are a few operating in the state or try to arrange to work a private property but the owner may expect a %.
