Are you sure it is silver? It looks a lot like chunks of melted metal from a beach bonfire. But if it is silver...then rule that idea out.

You can see how it looked when I first pulled it out attached to string that disintegrated on cleaning, bottom right corner:

Anyway to get a super macro shot of that "string" ?

Here are some close shots, I can have the wife bust out the hi-res camera tomorrow if you need a more detailed image:

Crispin...
I would be willing to bet you have found a rare item here...
This LOOKS LIKE... EARLY Native stuff.
But... (heh)
Those pieces of "string" so to speak are the key to solving this riddle.
It could be some weird fifties piece... but doubt it highly.
This is a cool find... and intriguing...

Ok... first question...
IS the string woven looking ?
or is it like string of today type of weave ?... look at it with a mag glass... study it.

Report what you see,
The pics are of no use... they are too blurry... can take some more if you want... or just study tha string...
DONT loose the bits... put them in a plastic baggy.

Ok...
This may not be that old...
I am looking at some things that are very similar...

My original guess was... "silver nugget necklace"...
Which am searching... as we speak...
here was first shot...

Native American Jewelry has often been done like this... even today.... strung on silk cord... sinew... etc.

Here is a picture of a "silver nugget"...
Your piece could be very old... BUT it hinges on that chord/string I.D....
Sheesh this could be a serious piece... OR a tourist piece from god knows when.

Definitely not woven. I knew I was going to bust out the hi-res. Wife is asleep and I can barely use it. Are these images any better?

Not woven. It is definitely sinew. I am in medicine field. Very familiar with what flesh looks like...

Well... the consistency of the thickness of the string looks even... hmm...
I still cannot see "detail" IN the string itself.
Maybe more light. ?

Turn on every light in the house :P wife will love that :)

ell that is the best one yet...
But yet I cannot see fiber or weave...
Try again tomorrow ... I am out for a bit.

Cool mystery piece ... this gets the "wheels ah turnin"...

If I had to choose... I would say def native.
The chord ? Hemp ? Silk ? ? ?
This and the type of weave are the keys to this.

Try working on some macro shots... I wanna see fiber... I mean hair ON fiber shot... :P
Seriously though...
The key is that string... what is it ? when was it made ?
Some fibers hold up better than others even if new or old this can tell a lot...etc.

Np...N e time.
Cool finds.
Go back and see if there is any more of it.
Ya never know.

OH... show a closeup of the "hoop" part of the string with the "crimped" metal/silver.
