Quartz?

Today I was out at the creek digging out cracks/breaking them open and the material that I panned out had what looks like really really rough coarse quartz in it. Unless there's some other type of mineral it could be. It's running through the bedrock like quartz but its not thick veins they're really narrow. Anyways I found some really coarse gold in the same spot so maybe it could be a quartz vein with gold coming out of it? Idk. But most other areas on this creek has really smooth rounded gold. Even around that vein. There just happened to be some coarse crunchy looking pieces right there. Here's a pic of the quartz or whatever it may be.

I wish I could find the other Article for you it is much more detail.. Get out of the creek and on the hill! Course Gold it is a good indicator but I know that you know their is no rhyme or reason with Gold.. But definitely worth checking out. What hind of Bedrock?? bookshelf slate Also are you seeing any kind of stains on the Quartz that indicates other metals??

Not sure what type of bedrock it is. When I break the bedrock apart it comes out in blocks. Is that bookshelf slate? I think it's some kind of slate. I'm not sure if there's any stains because the creek is really low right now and once I cloud the water up I can't see anything.

Lots of good gold quartz veins are no wider than your piece, so...

Ill bring my detector with me next time. Maybe there's a little chunk in there somewhere.

Sample on different spots of the vein/veins you suspect are carrying the gold.Break up the quartz to a powder and small pieces and pan it out.What if there's a pocket three feet deep in the vein?the detector will be of no use on small deep pieces of gold and/or a vein just carrying very fine gold.

I will eventually but for now I'm just going to go over the surface because the water is at a trickle right now and clouds up immediately after touching anything so it would be hard to work it and see what I'm doing. Probably have to wait until winter to work it efficiently.

Found that same super chunky micro quartz (only place in a mile stretch I've found it) in what I thought was a small crack Four trips later that crack has grown to around 12' tall, 8' deep and 3" wide. Every time I think it's through kicking out gold it takes another turn. Every bit of that gold came from that crack. Most of it very chunky but quite a bit of rounded gold as well. The prospector in me wants to get exploring elsewhere, but it's practical evil twin El Cheapo keeps reminding me- you don't leave gold to find gold.
