Quartze conglomerate?

Found it in AZ. Thought it was neat so I brought it home. There had been a placer claim placed in the late 80s on this spot. There was loose quartz everywhere and a lot of small quartz veins.

A conglomerate usually has smooth stones. When it has sharp stones, it is a breccia. I'd lean more toward breccia on your piece. Gary

Hard to say. A close up picture of the "cement" holding it together would help.

Sorry but my understanding is just the opposite, breccia smooth, conglomerate sharp, anyone else want to weigh in ?

Breccia, conglomerate is sedamentary rock.

Exactly the opposite in fact breccia is sharp/angular pieces, conglomerate are rounded

It could be a very heavily weathered crystal plate. Or it might be just some heavily weathered massive quartz. I see iron staining on the bottom, might be a good place to get a gold detector out and start swinging where you found that!

There was loose quartz everywhere and quite a few veins of quartz. On doing some research there had been a gold claim on the spot 30 years ago. I crushed up one sample and there was a little bit of gold in it. I don't have a very good detector (or maybe I just don't know how to use it well enough) but would like to get one some day. Here's a picture of another interesting piece from the same location.
