Question about platinum and how it reads on an Explorer SE

I was detecting a beach yesterday when a woman approached me and told me she lost her platinum/diamond ring in the surf on Thanksgiving. Apparently she was throwing some flowers in the surf and her ring flew off her finger. I spent an hour looking for the ring yesterday but the tide was coming in pretty quickly after about an hour, so I gave up and moved to higher ground.

I plan on heading back out there today with a nice minus tide this afternoon. I was wondering if anyone could give me any guidance on the numbers that might show up for a platinum ring. I was looking at this chart: http://environmentalchemistry.com/yogi/periodic/electrical.html
and I see that platinum appears to be a rather poor conductor of electricity. Can anyone give me an idea of the numbers that might read out? I suppose on the Smartfind screen that the crosshairs would be all the way in the bottom right hand corner, is that correct?

I found one platinum ring about 2 years ago, it rang up as junk. the guy that lost his ring was able to pinpoint where he lost it within about a 40 sq ft of snow, I just got lucky, if I would have been just hunting, I probably wouldn't have dug it

its will be higher in smart screen then foil is for sure, go to the jewelry shop and ask to check platinum rings on your explorer -its will help you to concentrate and make faster search. good luck if women was not joking Stasys

Trouble is most Platinum rings aren't 100% pure Platinum and are alloyed with other metals which can give readings all over the place from foil to dime. That is another reason I hate meters as you tend to forget that they lie to ya.

Thanks for all the input. I have not yet been back out due to the cold and the rain, but I am thinking of making a trip tomorrow afternoon. Since it is the beach I will just dig all targets and hope to get lucky on the ring. There should be some sunshine tomorrow that will take the edge off of the cold temperature.
