Question- for those who use canvas bags...

Hello everybody. I am considering buying some canvas bags to use and transport my coins. Up until this point, I have been using a large beach pail capable of holding $900-1000+ in half dollars. The bucket tipped over 2 of the last 5 trips to the bank causing me to clean up the mess once i got to the bank's parking lot.

I am just wondering what size canvas bags you all use,
-are they worth the investment?
-any suggested sellers to sell me canvas bags?
-what are the measurements on the bags?
-How much can the bag hold?
-do you prefer using canvas bags to dump coins into a coin counter? What about burlap?

Sorry if this topic has been brought up before, and if I am asking a newbie question. I skimmed pages 1-10 of this forum and nothing came up as to canvas bags.

Several banks have given me canvas bags.Lost some when I forgot to ask for them after dumping.One says 1000 $ dimes.Have put my name on them.Ask your favorite teller for some.

It never dawned on me to ask the bank tellers for canvas bags, as modern technolegy improved, the banks are now supplied coin in cardboard coin boxes.

I guess it can't hurt to ask. I only have 2 banks that I use, one of them, TD bank(a supply bank and a dump bank). The other, a wells fargo- only used to order half dollars.

I ready my coins for dumping in canvas bags of $1,000 whether it be dimes, quarters, or halves and 12X19 has always been more than OK. Also, do not buy those overpriced eBay seller's canvas bags. If you are going to spend at least $25, here is a good site (that I am not affiliated with) that's having a sale on canvas bags.

Just for them at a bank. You already pay too many fees.

I do so much with BOA that they gave me two of their large zipper bags which I use all the time. Can carry over $1000 in halves or quarters in just one of them. Makes it nice with the zipper. Keeps things secure.

Are they the bags made of vinyl like material? I didn't realise those bags came in sizes that large. Are they really strong enough to carry 1k in halves without tearing? I may have to ask about one of those. I got some strong clear plastic bags from B of A that I use when I dump. I don't put more than around $500 in halves in those or $100 or so in nic's - I don't want to risk it.

But then I just remembered I don't dump @ B of A so it probably wouldn't be a good idea to be advertising another bank every time I'm at my dump bank. I might lose dumping privileges real quick that way.

yep, those are the bags and yes if you give a little bottom support with an arm or hand they will hold up well. been doing it for several months now.

I've been using a cardboard box that I got a CD in from Amazon. I guess it may be time to upgrade to a bag...

I too have gotten a few of these canvas bank bags from banks or C.U.'s in my area, for free of course, as someone mentioned they will usually say a specific denomination of coin, i.e... $1,000.00 in dimes, or quarters or what not, and sometimes they even have the name of the bank or cu on it too... If I were you, I wouldnt pay for any of these bags, Im pretty sure if you just started asking your pick up and dump banks for them, you shouldnt have a problem picking some up for free. This is what I use, and it seems to work very well.......

Its funny you mention Wells Fargo, because I got one of my bags from there just the other day. I was quite surprised because that bank doesnt even have a change counting machine.... So I have no idea why it was there. But she gave it to me.

I would just ask them straight up.... "Hey I was wondering if you had any of those canvas bags that are used for coin"? Im pretty sure in most cases that if they do, they will just give them to you.

I got a canvas bag just earlier today from a BOA and I've already used it to dump some quarters I got at the same bank (I dumped at one of my dump banks a couple of hours later). It was the first bank I've ever asked for one of those bags and I scored on my first try.

I'm going to ask a couple of more banks tomorrow because I'd like to get at least one more.

I asked my local TD bank if they had any(I assumed no, they deal with coin boxes). They did not have any. Guess I will try my wells fargo on friday when ordering halves. (sweeten them up by depositing a check)
