Question on home protection firearms

Fear is great if you know how to deal with it. Sometimes I like to run with scissors. Also I get a thrill out of taking the batteries out of the smoke detector so I can smoke in bed.

:dontknow:

Thank you all for the feedback, I believe I have enough info now to move forward.

I have a few professionals lined up and will go from there

Lots of good advice in this thread. One thing I suggest, and this is only my opinion, I feel having the element of surprise works out best. That is to say like while putting a sign in your front yard that says "ADT" or my favorite "Smile, you're on surveillance cameras" can be a deterrent to some, to the determined it is just a giveaway they need to approach with caution. Same with the "Trespasser's will be shot" sign. Good to ward off your armature but just a sign to tell possible home invaders there are probably guns to steal. And of course be carful and enter ready to shoot.

Kind of like open carry vs conceal carry. If I were going to rob some joint with a gun the first thing I'd do is take care of the guy showing his gun.

Problem is how do you know someone is carrying, unless they are seated or standing right in front of you, you want know. If Florida ever allows open carry again I would do both open and concealed at same time.

I have small signs on glass of front and back doors that say "If you illegally enter these premises you will be shot." Can't say they wern't warned.

Well If I were going to rob some joint I'd sure case the place. If someone was boldly carrying a gun you'd see it if you were looking. That would be the first person I'd shoot. Won't do much good to have a concealed if you're already spotted.

I think the best security system is one that allows YOU the home owner a fast easy exit from any room in the house. Never play hero. Easy access to guns makes for easy access for children or burglars. I am a gun owner and i keep them safely locked away with trigger guards and locked cases. Your best and safest option is a good alarm system and dog. If your worried about a home invasion in the middle of the night, simply upgrade your bedroom doors and keep them locked when you go to bed.

I upgraded my bedroom doors already, it has a loaded AR 15 behind it.

That makes me believe that certain parts of this world is just messed right up TH. Seems folks are doing basically the same thing as they did in the wild west, now there's a thought get back to duals out in the streets. (smiley implied)

Duels= They should Never have been outlawed, they had a purpose of shutting the MOUTH of one party or the other. I was Born too dang late.

Actually, if you insist on having a loaded firearm for protection in the bedroom, the advice given on shotguns is pretty good. An AR-15 would not be my first choice. Maybe a 12 ga double barrel Coach gun. Two hammers two triggers and a spread that won't go thru 3 homes endangering innocent people.

Already have an auto 12 ga Remington shotgun loaded.

LOL sounds like your all set. A little overkill but it will work.

And how do you think your going to be able to see both right and left side of every one in the building? Your also assuming only one person in the building is armed too.

I will take my chances with my loaded .45 pistol.

Not sure about overkill. maybe the loaded AK47 and SKS and the 5 loaded pistols pushes me towards limit but don't think so, I have friends that have 5 times as many as I do.

Must kind of suck to have to arm oneself in their own home to feel protected against the possibility of being attacked. I ask myself would I live in such a place where I have to have a gun under every pillow, or behind the door, or on the night stand to feel safe? No I would probably move on to a place where there's no threat, or to a place where there's bigger things to fret about in life.
Kind of a strange way to live life I figure, where one has to pack to feel safe from that unknown threat that might come. It's not in the cards for me to go that route, I'll just have to accept it if ever comes, but I'm not going to make it a pinnacle of my survival.

Must really suck to walk around all one's life without a clue as to how evil people can be. Or maybe having no idea of the Real World is more pleasant than reality. I truly hope that people like that never experience the Evil that walks this world. May they all live peaceful lives and die as clueless as they are.

Ask a cop if I'm right the next time you see one if you don't believe me. Or don't- its probably a lot more fun in RainbowLand.
(yes, that's a movie reference!)

It's called freedom, I choose to be free and I choose to be armed as is my right, I have been armed all my life, well at least the last 50+ years of it.

So you must not carry any type of insurance, health, life, home, fire, after all to do so would mean you prepared for some " unknown threat that might come."

I rather have guns in my home, just in case there is a break in.

Oops wrong person I quoted.

I would rather have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it.
