Question on home protection firearms

Well Howdy Other Oregon Vikings and Lovers of Brookings, I must have missed you guys when I was over at the airport and Harbor All the time. I figured Fishon would have this thread all wrapped up by now??

OregonViking, My Blood comes from Norway on my Dads side, he was 6ft8" I'm 6'5"/was before knee replacements and back surgery, cut me to 6'4" also Cherokee /Lakota Sioux. I too like and practice Marshal arts, Krav Maga keeps my pain threshold up, lol, at 60 yrs it is Not as fun as it used to be.

Fish1on, Get what you need and relax eh? Best Regards to all.

Well hello!
Who said I was a lover of Brookings?:laughing7:
I will soon be a resident of Josiphine county. I'am invoved in the construction a timber-frame home and have found property in Merlin/Galice area. Martial arts has helped my flexibility and reflexes but at 51 my "looking for a fight" days are over....

They can be pypassed by drugged raw steaks.

Had a GSD that never ate unless it was asked if he was a good watch dog. Saved his life twice from the poison meat thrown over the fence of the property. Have one now that his liking for his own food is better but still he could be poisoned. The upside is he isn't alone outside, and sounds off while inside. Friends say he's "Very Friendly" but sounds totally different when they arrive at her door-lets say a tad intimidating.

I feel somewhat depressed at the fact folks live in such fear, to having to arm themselves to the teeth for that someone to break their peace. Something is wrong-don't really know what-but it doesn't feel right. Best of luck to all that live in the land of free.

I agree, but evil has always been and always will be around us, unfortunately. Predators aren't limited to the animal world. Up to us to deal with 'em accordingly.

If she can't shoot an AR I sure wouldn't get her a shotgun or a handgun. Shotguns are heavier and more to handle and handguns take lots of practice.
An AR is about the easiest platform to use for beginners.

Shotguns are certainly not heavier, but they do have more recoil.

education on the subject is best protection to start

I'm by no means living in fear, in fact I'm quite happy, I'm simply insured against evil, no different than having car, home, health and life insurance.

No fear. Being armed is enough of an equalizer I can go where I please when ever. Even on my own property.
Glad you live in a place no one is ever a victim though! Congrats.

Get a sign to put out front that says " The Front Door Is There For YOUR Protection" :laughing7:

I hope that the 'Guns Are Evil and You Are A Scardy Cat' crowd understands that not everyone can be 6'5" ex Special Forces black belt internet ninjas like they are. Many folks are slightly built, have disabilities, or even are (gasp!) aged and need am equalizer against Evil.

And let me assure you that Evil is out there. I have seen it. And I have seen it let out of prison. Charlie Manson level-worms in the brain Evil walks this planet.

I guess it all depends where and how one is brought up, there's defending one's property and then there's a little over the top. In conversation with a half dozen folks from nobody having a gun and some owning a good many all stated the same when they read your post. "He's living in fear"
Different laws up here all guns must be stored with trigger locks, in a locked cabinet, unloaded-period. If the law knows different well its confiscation, charged with unsafe storage, and usually a 10 yr ban on all weapons if convicted-even a pocket knife. Yes a tad over the top.

Never said I did RC, crime happens everywhere, but it's handled differently in other places. Not everyone needs to go on kill first and then ask questions later.

Well since this isn't politics forum I can't say what I think of the laws in the state you live in.

Do you have car insurance, why? Do you have life insurance, why? Do you have health insurance, why? Do you have fire insurance, why? What are you afraid of that you have so much insurance? I have same insurances, not because I am afraid, I carry them in case I or my family ever need them just like my firearms.

I go anywhere I want anytime I want and I am never afraid, I also carry Taurus Public Defender everywhere I go as is my right in a free society.

I have insurance on my possessions and our health care is free basically. So that probably answers that I'm not in a state but in a province. As for walking anywhere, at anytime, I also do, but I need not to carry a weapon.
( One would have to fill in more paperwork than one has time for) I though have walked down many wary paths and driven in many States and seen many things over the years, I understand why you would pack TH.

Reads utopian.
Had a stabbing nearby the other night. Kitchen knives need to go I guess.
I went out to kill recently.
A pistol that is always worn. An auxiliary pistol should it be required. And a rifle.
No locks. No crime. No questions . Just meat for the winter.

When the authorities are willing to sign affidavits claiming responsibility for my well being , they will still not disarm me.
They could not prevent the victims deaths here in the past or present. Why expect them to in the future as a lesser presence continues to result from communities ending the police in them and expecting the to counties to respond?

Having responded to a nearby alarm enough times. My claim of a ( understandably) substantial delay between my arrival and that of an L.E.O. being timely....confirms you are on your own hook if some one is killing you.
And yes. Murders have occurred too close. Even out here. As well as escaped felons.

I do know some one in another state who may fear. Yet is unarmed and still does the same work.
She was shot repeatedly as a clerk and left for dead.
That felon just skipped across state lines where no retrieving him was supported by the state he fled to. Mattered little to you .....but how would you respond after the first couple bullets tore through you? My being armed simply suggests an intention to return the favor if being robbed and shot for cooperating. No guarantee , just opportunity to stop the assault on life.
In my home? No question of killing anyone trying to kill me if they fail.
Locks my patootie. Show me an account where a criminal used a gun on a victim after taking a lock off it first while the victim waited.

PJ, I have lots of friends that have far, far more firearms than I, in fact I probably have the least firearms of many of my friends. I have friends with multiple gun safes as no single safe made is large enough to hold them all.

Vast majority of my friends carry too.

and he wears a bike helmet in case of asteroids ( please don't ban me, I couldn't resist)

That makes me believe that certain parts of this world is just messed right up TH. Seems folks are doing basically the same thing as they did in the wild west, now there's a thought get back to duals out in the streets. (smiley implied)

If the wild west was really that wild ,it would be a worry some comparison. Most folks did not want to risk lead poisoning ,even from small arms.

Last time I visited across the bridge ( no gun ,and no question about the blade worn openly) a guy had cut up another guy without his consent and was mailing parts of him to various places.
Been a few years .....but a lot of bug eyed nervous folks on the sidewalks when going through the populated area above the bridge on the way back. And no, I don't frighten people by my appearance when passing through in a vehicle....

When seconds count the police are only 20 minutes away.

As I type this I have my every-day-carry pistol still in place. I have no say when some dirtbag may try and rob or harm me, so I am prepared in my home and outside.

Fear? Perhaps.

But it's better to be prepared so you don't have to fear that you will be helpless to resist effectively. If you don't think it necessary perhaps you are in denial of the harsh reality that some humans are irretrievably evil and will kill you without remorse.

If I get caught in a duel in the streets it's because I didn't plan well enough ahead.
