I am fairly new to metal detecting but have been out for a reasonable amount of hours by now. I am sick of using my little gator digger that came with my metal detecting setup. While it does get the job done my hand and wrist both get somewhat sore.

My question is this: Do people also use some sort of shovel to locate targets? It seems like 1. it would be quicker, 2. less pushing and digging, 3. my hand wouldn't hurt from digging over and over. My only concern would be if I brought a shovel people may get the wrong idea and think I am going to do some serious digging.

What are my options?

I would say no shovels in parks, use a lesche. If you are out in the woods shovels are great.

I use a Garrett Edge digging tool and also a Lesche digging tool.. They both are great and get the job done.. Though they are both around the $40 mark, a bit expensive but worth it in the long run.. Good Hunting.

I have a mini shovel thats about 2.5 feet which gets the job done.

I has a razor gator digger but would like something with a longer handle. Anyone have any links of something like you're talking about?

I use a long handled garden trowel. Total length is 18 inches, with shovel part being 4 inches wide, and six inches deep. It's long enough to kick with my foot to dig my plug, but doesn't at all look like a shovel.
