This monument to Columbus' landfall is located at Long Bay, so named for Columbus' long boat. This is the point where he came ashore. A monument placed on the floor of the ocean in Long Bay marks the exact spot where Columbus dropped anchor on October 12th, 1492. On the beach, a simple white cross commemorates the first land discovered in the West Indies. Beautiful picture AND scenery Bart............

My cross monument is the memorial for Christopher Columbus first landing in the new world. It's on the island of San Salvador, bahamas. I have found artifacts there that I believe were left by Columbus. I avoid this spot now because it's just to sensitive and sacred. What do you do with an artifact from columbus's landing ? Not worth the trouble even though it's legal to detect there. It hasn't even been proven to be the actual site. Although I'm pretty sure it is from what I've seen. Most authorities think this is the site but there is still much debate.
