Before AARC pops in you're partially right...this was a medieval piece that was tossed down on the battlefield as a deterent to the opponents calvary horses. The name of these things escape me at the moment but trust me that's what they are....

Bart, I've spent several hours trying to find a match and this is the closest I could find, and you can see, it still is not a match. Any background on where you found it ? Time to give it a bath to clean it up and see if any markings are on the back ? How much does it weigh ?
