I stick to the same rules as the states, stay away from the treasure shipwreck sites, stick to the beach and shallow water, and try and get permissions through friends and contacts. Never had problems. Got a 1920s razor holder today.

I comb the wrack to look for ambergris every morn. Havnt found any in 6 years, but you just never know when......bam !!! There it is !!! When I'm in the bahamas I can sell it legally in Nassau for 15-20 $ a gram. If the European or Asian buyers fly in you could see much higher prices depending on quality. Heres my walk to my spot.

I have never picked "what I think was ambergris" up when I have seen what seems to be some.

Always was unsure if it was or was not... I have so many strange things that look like it on beaches over the years I just pay no attention anymore.

NOW... IF I saw a huge chunk or so... I might get down and dirty and whip out a lighter and see if it burned ... which is what I was told long ago to test.

I always see stuff that looks like it put I always just think to myself ... "ehhh leave it for those guys" meaning thepeople that collect it.

I've gotten some nice chunks over the years some as large as 10 pounds. My friends on San sal got one last spring 11 pounds !! Last piece I found was a 1/2 pound chunk of black ambergris that I found with my bosses son while we beach combed at surfers beach eleuthera.

Folks,

The joys of getting older I can't remember if I posted this recipe or not....

We use the K.I.S.S. version of the recipe (keep it simple stupid) and don't use the cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon or bread or mustard. Just go with salt, pepper, parsley and obviously the onions and meat. For thickening rather than the bread we coat the beef in flour before browning which thickens the sauce when you add the beer.

Served with roasted garlic mashed potatoes. I also steamed up some green beans and then simmered them in some tomato sauce to give a bit of a meditteranean flavour.
