Hey folks out in the my old haunt & located what I believe to be a explosive civil war .54 bullet.
Although not positive, with a little research I have found the .54 Gardiner to be a very close double to the one I found. The buckles and other artifacts I have found in the past are just across the lake in that there tree line, such an awesome area to hunt in. I guess I gave up my spot to ya all, oops!! Anyway enjoy the pics & happy Holidays to all of you. Don't eat to much turkey & man lots a turkey out in that patch of woods.

The bullet on the right is a normal .54 mini

The top pic with the individual bullet does not look like a Gardner.

Not sure what the pair is. Can they stand side by side for a photo?

I did find a link or two though about a Gardinier bullet at Harry Ridgeway's.

The pic looks like it sticks out instead of being hollow. It does look like it does have a little bit of a rim on the outter edge though, like the one in the pic.

Dunno, just some thoughts.

Is that pond natural or man made? If natural, you should try getting in the water. That is where the relics are.
The new bullet looks like an explosive round to me. I do not have the Mason and McKee book, so any further ID will have to come from elsewhere.
I concur with DR. BAH

That kinda look's what you got Rebel, nice find....Might just be missing a piece but it sure look's like it,but I can be wrong like anyone else.Hope this can help.....The piece I was referring to is the inner chamber which held the explosive....Happy Thanksgiving and HH!!

Nice find

Let us know your final position on what you have. There are always a lot of maybe with 100+ year old stuff.

Have a great Thanksgiving

Hi,
It could be a williams cleaner bullet, they were supposed to be packed one in every package of 10 musket loads in the war, to help with the bore cleaning. it had a disc of wood and a small plug of zinc. I believe that squeezed tight against the bore and scraped the sides when fired. if that is what this is it is missing the zinc plug. That could be what it is.
Good find!
Thanks!

Nice projectile.
I got an Enfield that looks kind of like that.
Does it look like an exploding????
