This park is still producing some very nice coins and jewelry. In one of my earlier posts I mentioned a city park that was totally dug up. Prior to this park being dug up, it was considered by most to hunted out.
I told a friend to go in and give it a try. These are a few of the coins that he found there in addition to several IH cents, tokens, Barber dimes, and wheat's.
The 1879 Seated dime had a mintage of only 15,100.

Great finds! So much for the park having been already hunted out, lol.

Wow..that is great!!! Congrats to your friend!!! I should be just as lucky to find some nice coins like that.

When hubby and I are detecting...I have a habit of going behind him..as he is getting use to this new MD'er. I have found coins (clad) after he swepted a spot, one spot got me 85 cents richer :) ... But he will go behind me at times too and find things...like an earring I missed :(.

Again........CONGRATS on a wonderful find!!!! HH

Thanks everyone for the replies!

I wish I could say that I found these coins too, but I did manage to get my share.
If anyone has read my earlier threads on detecting this park you will know that they kicked me out based on a park ordinance that is loosely enforced. There are pics showing the extent of the digging that is taking place.
My first day there, in about 4 hours of hunting, I found 18 Indianheads. Not quite a daily record for me, but close.
In more than 30 years of detecting I have never seen an entire city block dug up like this one was. I figure that close to 50 Indianhead cents have already been found there in the past month and undoubtedly there will be more.

Ringding,
The 1845 large cent was about 6" deep after they scraped off about 6", so that coin would have been about 12" deep before they started the project.

You just never know when that rare one is going to come to light.I'll bet your friend is proud of that one. I take it you got nowhere with the city on gaining permission to hunt there again yet it 's alright for other people to hunt? I know it probably wouldn't be the right thing to do but I would be hard pressed not to go back in there. Anyway it's nice to see all the great old coins and such that have been dug.Hopefully the window of opportunity stays open for a while yet. HH!

What detector did your friend use?
Roadquest,
I was using an older Garrett Freedom II. Most of my coin finds were 0" to 3" deep. I then broke out the Fisher CZ6 with 10" coil and started finding some older/deeper ones. My detecting buddy was using a Minelab Explorer.
