Great, full day of detecting with Skunemonk (Jeff) in the Hudson Valley...An historic property along the Hudson River where we have had many good finds in the past. I had heard stories about how the British fired on the property in Oct 1777 from ships on the Hudson and canon balls were found decades ago and removed from the property. Was pleased to learn from the owner upon arrival that two canon balls had been returned a few weeks earlier and there they were, wow, what history (I would say to "hold" but more to 'move' because must weigh 75 lbs). So off we were for our day of detecting, much of which was in the field with animals, most being friendly as you see in photos, but one Llamma we had to watch, the male, who did take an aggressive run at Skunemonk before backing off. Needless to say, had to dig with our heads on a swivel for that one - at about 500 lbs it would have been a losing battle for us, but with the relics and coins we could find, we had to keep going. So to the finds, not many but they were good. Skunemonk found an old lead fishing weight -- very cool, but let's just say my great company and a break from work might have been the best part of his day -- I managed an 1842 Large Cent....and a 1911 V nickel...a great day all in all with all the history and friendly animals that came around to help us. (Canon ball about size of bowling ball)
