Real Confederate Buckle or Fake?

I purchased this from a person who said they dug it in Vicksburg. They said it's an original Confederate Buckle.

What do you think? Even if it's a repro I'd like to know something about it.

I don't have a picture of the reverse side yet.

Not sure where my better one went... but here's the one I have that is partially broken...

My buckle should arrive soon and I'll have to take it to someone and find out all I can about it.

Lots of THers have found these at very old sites but there seems to be no common opinion as to their origin and manufacturing history.

I tend to think they were made during the Civil War and probably into the early 20th century. But who knows, maybe they're still making them?

This thing really has me bugged. I've got to know one way or another.

They are ACW CSA buckles... they're not worth a great deal but they are what they are...

I picked this one up in a trash pit. I was told that it was early 1900's.
Around it I found 1903-A3-30-06 and modle 1911 brass.

I agree it was probably a bedroll buckle, I have one I found in a CSA camp. Tsgman

I dont know for sure, i do know the csa boys would use union stuff when they could get it.
