This is the Canadian quarter I think is an error due to the orientation of the reverse. The others I have from this series is different.
I would like to know which term is correct for this--medal orientation or coin orientation.
Also if it is an error, should I get it certified and by whom? What would it cost? How much is it worth? What would be the best outlet for selling it if it is high dollar?
I'm hoping it is a high dollar error so I can get a newer metal detector.
Thanks
Scott

I just found out that the "coin" orientation of the dies was used until 1908 for this series. In 1908 the die orientation was changed to "medal". This coin is 1906.
Sooooooo, no new metal detector for me ...yet.
NUTZ! Oh well, at least I am more smarter now. That's more better, I guess. LOL
I'll keep looking with my antique metal detectors and looking over my coins and one day.....

Hello! Very Nice Find!

I found one that is very similiar.

The issue here is that there are two varieties.

One is a Large Crown, and the other is a Small Crown.

Coin stats. 1906 Canadian Quarter Dollar. 5.8100 grams, .9250 silver, .01728 oz ASW.

PCGS Coin number 31767 (no pic on their site! http://www.pcgs.com/pcgsno/frame.chtml?type=date&filename=canada)

1906 Issue year. 1,237,843 coins issued (Large Crown variety)

1906 Small Crown : Rare!- included in the above amount issued. Unknown quantity issued Small Crown variety.

Prices listed below are from mid 2006, and I am sure that they have gone up in value like so many other older coins.

values: Large Crown.

Vg-8 $8.00, F-12 $21.00, VF-20 $55.00, XF-40 $150.00, MS-60 $500!

values: Small Crown.

Vg-8 $1,600.00, F-12 $2,300, VF-20 $3,000.00, XF-40 $3,500, cannot find values for the small crown variety for prices in grades above XF-40!

I sent the Royal Canadian Mint a letter, asking for assistance in determining the differences between the Large Crown and Small Crown varieties, and of course, they didn't bother to reply.

Still stuck on that issue, if the one I found is one variety or the other.

The error that you describe isn't known to me. The orientation looks pretty much like the one that I have. Off-set from the obverse to the reverse.

My luck, probably the Large Crown.

Was fun to find and a thrill to pop this one out of the ground!

Posting pics of my find.

Great find!

Keep hunting!

Last year, I submitted some photos to Western & Eastern Treasure Magazine, to the "Ask Mark Parker" column. One of my finds was published in the very next issue! ( If you know of anyone that has that issue, I couldn't get a copy and would like to have one for myself.....let me know, I'll buy a copy!)

The item that was published is this; Pope Leo XIII Silver Medallion.

Posting pics of some of the items I sent to Mark Parker. He kept half the pics I sent.

Perhaps for possible later use in his column.

He sent me a very nice letter and identified all of the items I submitted. The Pope Leo XIII medallion is worth about $300 and the Trapshooting Medal, about $300 as well! Very nice finds I must say!

Cannot over exagerate the capabilities of the Mine Lab Explorers. They are fantastic machines!

On this site, under metal detector reviews, here is the page; The Explorer XS, as I see it.

TreasureNet Forum > Metal Detecting > Metal Detector Reviews - By Owners! > Minelab (Moderators: jeff of pa, wreckdiver1715, PBK) > Topic: The Explorer XS, as I see it.

Now saving up for the "SE" model!

Tim
