Hello,

I found this piece of pottery today. It looks very old, but I’m not certain. Can anybody help me with identifying it or dating it? It is made of red clay and has blue/green glaze with etching and two elephant heads. It’s approx 8.5“ tall and 9.5” wide and pretty heavy.

Thank you in advance.

Whoever owned it glued felt to the bottom, so I’m not sure. I should mention I found it at a goodwill.

If you do mind me asking, where did you find? And if you remove the felt there may be a name/signature on bottom.

I found it at a goodwill (I find some of my treasures there occasionally 🙂). I’m a little afraid to remove the felt because I can see a few cracks coming from the base.

Now, no need to take felt off. It is interesting looking but I do not think it is old. It appears to be something produced for tourist trade or retail sales. It is a nice find though. I could be wrong but do not think so. Find the right spot for it in your home and enjoy it. And thanks for sharing.

Maybe it was made in the late 70's-2000?
Found it 😆

Apparently made in Mexico for tourists as suggested. I find that funny since elephants are not native to Mexico.
