Not a rein guide but it did go on top of horses as decoration. Can't remember there proper name, might be called a 'swinger'.

interesting, I was wondering because I have never found one like it, sure does look similar to a reins guide though. Looking into them there were referred to as "fly head terrets" and have tons of nick names, swingers being one of them.

Yes, "fly head terret" was the most usual name for these at the time they were in vogue. There's extensive information on their history and usage here:
