Relic Detecting help in South La.

Has anybody out there done any MD'ing for relics around South Louisiana? I have read a little about Monkey Island, near Cameron. Looking nfor any info availiable on possible Civil War battle sights near Lafayette,LA that are able to be worked with M/D. Will anybody out there with info please let me know. Rookie looking for spots.
