It was another great hunt with FortBedfordBob and DeArmittPA.... we hit a pair of campsites.
The bit boss surfacing early in the AM was a pleasant surprise....
And one of the button fronts was a rare NY according to Tice's book, if I was able to ID it properly. When it first appeared at the bottom of the hole, I first thought it was a piece of modern junk. While trying to take the dirt out of the back, I simultaneously noticed the eagle as the center broke out of it...
Although it appears that perhaps it was already broken with the dirt holding it in. Either way, it would have been nice to see it intact.
The 69s were great finds - always happy to see them surface.
For one hour of the day we went searching for a possible new to us site, but unfortunately we were not able to find it. I was at least able to salvage the hour by finding the Indian and the Merc.
One of the last holes dug was that chunk of iron in the top of the picture from about 18 inches deep. It sounded great, and when it finally was worked loose at the bottom of the hole both DeArmitt and I thought we finally had a plate... but alas, it was not to be...
All in all it was a great day out with great friends with some nice finds. Thanks for looking.
