Here is another story of spousal abuse ending in murder. Close to home.
We have met the female victims mother a few times for dinner. Her daughters went to school in my town. The girl was married to a complete nut job and she had a restraining order against him. For safety, she was staying with her brother-in-law and his family. This wednesday, 02/25/2011 she and the bro-in-law were murdered. By a sharp edged weapon of some sort.
That same day, her ex-husband was arrested for a violation of the restraining order. Don't know those details. But on his booking sheet he described his marriage status as "Widowed". This was before his ex-wife was murdered.
Fortunately her sister and child were not at home or thwy too would have been murdered. So much for restraining orders. Her's the news:

The ex-husband of a woman killed in a Douglas County home early Wednesday is being held on $1 million bail, public records show.
He was in custody at the time of the murders, authorities say.
Christopher B. Wells, 38, of Monument was arrested Tuesday by El Paso County authorities for violating a restraining order against his ex-wife, who was found stabbed to death, along with her brother-in-law, in his home about 3 a.m. Wednesday.
"We don't have anyone in custody related to this case, but we do have some very promising leads," Douglas County sheriff's Sgt. Ron Hanavan said Thursday evening. "We haven't yet ruled anybody in or out yet."
Amara Wells, 39, and her brother-in-law, Robert Rafferty Jr., 49, were found stabbed to death in his home in the Keene Ranch subdivision southwest of Castle Rock.
A 911 caller urged sheriff's deputies to go to the home about 3 a.m. Wednesday to check on the residents, but authorities have not said who made that call.
Amara Wells had been staying there since August, when she filed for divorce and was granted a restraining order, public records show. Rafferty's wife, Tammy, is Christopher Wells' sister.
Neighbors told television stations Wednesday that Tammy Rafferty was out of town on business at the time of the slayings.
A court order in the Wells' divorce was issued Feb. 16, but the details of that order weren't available Thursday evening.
On Feb. 7, Christopher Wells pleaded not guilty in Douglas County to a charge of criminal mischief of more than $1,000 from Aug. 2, and a protection order on unnamed individuals was granted in that case. A jury trial is scheduled for late June.
Amara Wells' Facebook page states she was originally from Broomfield and worked as a mortgage adviser.
Robert Rafferty was president of the Keene Ranch Home owners Association. His 2,600-square-foot home, appraised at $825,769 last year, was built in 2002, according to county tax records.
A native of Overland Park, Kan., Rafferty attended the University of Kansas, according to his online profile on LinkedIn.
He was regional vice president of Bacterin International Inc. for about a year and previously had been a sales manager at several health care services or products companies.
A crime-scene lab and detectives continued their work Thursday. Hanavan said work there would continue for several more days.

Obviously restraining orders don't work. Have they ever?
A women who is afraid enough to get one, should automatically be given:
(a) A one week course in firearm handling
(b) A gun permit no matter where she lives or what the laws are
(c) A least a concealed weapon and maybe other firearms.
(d) Then a restraining order will have some teeth.
The sad, sad irony is not lost on me and my position on firearms.
If this were your daughter would you prefer she were armed or just scared?
