Well I returned to my families ancestral home on the sight of a French Indian fort. Other than piles of musket balls and 1 cannon ball, I have never hit anything else period. Deep in the sand, at the waterline... 12 inches down i hit this axe head.. not sure what it is, I am thinking french trade axe maybe? I will let you experts decide. An hour later in the same general area I hit this pic looking thing. It looks like it was longer at one point.. again I am hoping you can tell me what these are and if they may be my first period relics to the forts inhabitants

*sorry for poor pic quality*

I use to find axe heads like that in england. I was in the town of sawtry and there was this 300 year old thatched roof cottage down the road from where i was staying. I would find all kinds of stuff there. 1700's for sure, maybe earlier.

Great find.

I don't know about the axe - I've seen modern ones that look like that, but I would think axes haven't changed all that much in 300 years. Your other thing reminds me of a part of a very old style gate hinge.

Wow parson that almost does look exactly like what he found! Good eye!

I was going to say gate hinge but, Parson beat me to it, so I won't say gate hinge!
