In my last thread I shared some of my finds from 3 different permissions. One of those site I have been hunting a little over a year and starting to paint a picture of what took place. Last week we did a short 2 hr hunt and discovered a 1756 Spanish reale and a Spanish hammered cob. We only have a small patch available until harvest. I went back late evening and was soo excited to have found a Rev War French 18th regiment button. Its in beautiful condition with a nice patina. I have included some of the buttons and musket balls found in the past at the same location. Its neat when you start connecting the dots in what took place there. Ive included pics of what most the signals consist of and what it took to get 2 coins and a button. My nemesis ALUMN. LOL GL&HH

Crusader, that button is 170's-1780's. The French made several varieties of "turrett back" buttons. Some in pewter marked 1, 2, 5, 7 and 9 were shipped to the new country halfway through the Rev War. This is a French Regiment of the line button, and this regiment was one of those Rochambeau took from France to Connecticut then to Yorktown, Va. There are numerous places they camped along the way. Darryl's site is one such place.

The style didn't change much over the years, and the Rev War style buttons I have heard have been found elsewhere, especially in the West Indies in the past.

Even some of the French WWI buttons have that broken circle, but are made differently.

Man I'm loving that Rev button. So much rarer than that Spanish silver, and that type of Spanish is difficult enough. Rocked it

Thank you Scrappy!

Nice!

For my records what is the date range?

Smokeys reply to the dates is right on. Upon some research on this location I believe it was dropped sometime in 1776. They marched from PA down through MD into VA.

You have really been doing well lately. Congrats on a stellar button, and in such nice condition too.

Best of luck and thanks for sharing!

Thanks Carolina Tom. Its been a exciting year. Ive met some really good people and we all have decent sites. Works out great for everyone.

Your soil was very kind to that sweet looking Rev.War era button .....

well done !

Thanks CMDiamonddawg. I am impressed with the condition of this button. I was told they were good quality buttons, well made. And yes the soil in this area has lots of sand if that made a difference.

If one was going to dig a button this example of yours would be the one.Congrats on the smashing example and recovery.

Thank you PepperJ. This is my first Rev war button and I couldn't ask for more. Its in beautiful condition. I wish this button could tell its story, Man what it saw. Far fetched but in this area a French regiment met with GW and marched to Yorktown. Still researching but its in the right spot.

Congrats on a nice French Rev War button!

Congrat's on one really nice button. This should display well. Stay on this area and Continued Success to you.
