Hey guys,

With the rain still coming down and the coastline under water I decided to revisit some older finds from this year. When sorting the finds from Gheenoe78 and I's 3rd/19th/23rd Regiment of Foot camp I took a fresh look at a particular pewter cuff. Like most British cuffs, it is pewter, 12mm, and wrapped in a decorative rope around the edge...or so I thought. While rubbing my finger over the top to remove a thin layer of dust a noticed a yellow tint, additional cleaning revealed a yellow blown glass bead with a cross etching in the top :dontknow: Never seen one like it- anyone have any information on age/origin of this cuff. Perhaps earlier Spanish colonial or could it still be associated with the Brits?

Thanks for the help

Have seen similar dug in the UK. Would guess mid. 1700s, just a guess.

Thanks for taking shot IP, I figured 1700s just wanted to narrow the range. Maybe Cru has seen them before across the pond

From the top of my head its 1690-1720. I'll check.

Thanks for the research assist Cru. That cuff is certainly the earliest relic recovered from the site and significantly predates the British occupation. Definitely makes you wonder how it was lost

Could have been a treasured family piece, hand me down. Always hard to figure how long it circulated before it left our shores & was lost over there.

Certainly one of my favorite cuffs, but sadly will have to be moved out of my early military button display lol. Thanks again for the help guys

Similar to the Stuart Crystal buttons I have turned up. Unless they were lost by the French they would have been antiques when lost.
