I have Bill D up from Virginia. We planned to get into some trash pit digging, the the opportunity came up last nite to swing at a spot that was taking away from me 8months ago.
They told me 1 day and thats it.
So we had to do it, or things would be gone forever. Haha.
This place has given up over a 100 coppers, Spanish silvers, relics of all kinds, and gold rings and even a soild gold thimble.
Well it wasn't like that today..lol
But we did manage a few keepers.
The dice is my favorite find from today. And I did manage a 1835 half cent and a first for me a 3cent nickle.
Cant get the date off. But you know pickings were slim if I dug that. Haha
Also if anyone can put a age or time line on the scabbard tip that would be great. Also grabbed a few buttons. All in all not a bad day.
Bill was able to grab a few things also. Let him post when he gets back. We still have 2 more days of digging and hopefully sifting.
Stay posted.
Thanks everyone.
George.
Ps, also got a lead flint holder..

Nice set of finds!! I like the die...what is the substrate material?...how do you date that to the Rev War? The scabbard tip actually appears to be a bayonet tip and probably predates the CW. Nice job overall!

Nice hunt. I like the die. Is that bone? Ive been hoping to find one made from a bullet.
What did the 3-center and half-center ring up as, or were they too deep as usual.
So that is what a 3-cent NICKEL is supposed to look like when it comes out of the ground.

That die is really cool as is the half cent. Even though your downplaying it, that's a great hunt for anyone

Its made of lead. It was about 6inches down.

Try weighing it Dino :laughing7: And compare the weight to a .69 caliber musket ball. I have seen these found in CW camps before made from a Minnie, if you're right about the age it was probably made from a squared .69.
