Hey everyone,

I got back out the GWB site for a bit today and pulled another frock button of similar size and shape to the GW buttons. The pattern in the middle is very worn but around the edges the pattern is similar to the second button down...http://georgewashingtoninauguralbuttons.com/14.html Whatcha think??? I found this one near the second one I found yesterday. Also found a nice 1843 LC that I'll post in a bit.

~Okay, here's the LC~

I think you have your third one...that 4th one is calling out to you...find me...

Good luck

Re: Found another frock button but not sure about this one...

It is hard to say-the other two were same type and this one clearly has a different design around rim. However, even though very worn, it favors the style that featured the states linked around the edge.
I hope some cleaning will bring out more details and I really hope it is your third! Congrats on the others by the way!

The linked states example only has 13 loops for the 13 states. Yours has about 30. It's NOT a GW-- of any variety. Keep at it.

I do not see that anywhere in the write up. What I do see is the same consistent arch around the edge. If you count them you will notice that they also fall in line with each other leading me to believe that JW has himself a GW button. Nice find JW.......congrats................

I tend to agree, in fact if I remember correctly, some or at least one of the others who found multilple GW buttons did not all find the same variety. Here is his button, lightened a bit and I put it next to a GWI14 example. I think an excellent possibility it is your 3rd GW......... See if it is 34mm as the sample one is........

I've seen the two sets of four GW buttons that were found in NJ and in each set all four were the same style. I think someone recently found three and I believe there was at least two different styles but I not sure if all the buttons were found at the same site. With that being said I see no reason why someone could not have different style GW buttons and I think this 3rd button is a GW. Could be one set with different styles or more then one set although I doubt the later since I believe these buttons were rather expensive.

SIGH...I should have thought of this sooner, the button is bigger than the other two GW buttons which are 35mm in size. Needless to say the button I posted can't be what I thought it might be as it's listed at 34mm. Thanks anyways everyone, I really wasn't sure based on the size and style, not to mention it rang up higher that the other two and where I found it. All I know is somebody lost a lot of buttons back in the day

I had 2 that were Cobb17j. The third one I found on,1/2/12, was actually a Cobb 17i. Similar as regards to variety,(Eagle and Star), but slightly different with the eagle and placement of olive branch. I was quite sure that this was not a GW. BUT, opinions vary, and I have been wrong before. Just not this time.

I would put more faith into your opinion then my own...lol. It just looked to my old eyes that it could be a GW but now with the different size diameter I'm starting to doubt my original thought.

BTW was all three of your GWs from the same site? Congrats again on those finds I would love to find just one. I was able to hold the two sets that were found here in NJ (at different times) and it was a complete thrill to have that kind of history in my hands. For the longest time I had a picture of the two sets together as my screen saver...one day when my kids are older and I have the time to actually hit the woods again I will find my own... :icon_thumright:

Yep....all 3 within 30 yards of each other. Just found it interesting that they were of different dies. Keep at it.....you'll probably get 1 or 2. 2 of mine are sold.....the other not yet! :laughing7:
