Revolutionary Site Find

I found this large button while detecting a revolutionary war site a couple of days ago. There appears to be the letter A or possibly V in the center. Maybe a number but looks like a letter. This site was occuppied by both french and british from around 1762 on. Because of the buttons large size, 1 1/8 wide my brother thinks the button is colonial but to large to be war related. Can anyone ID this one or give and approximate time period?

The "V" looks too sloppy to be military, so probably not a V. Civilian button.
