Rick Savage on ABC World News

Diane Sawyer just ran a small story on metal detecting on ABC World News about 6:30 EST! Just ended. Rick, his wife, and another guy were detecting a field in Gettysburg, found a 3 ring minie ball and a crushed beer can. Even showed a classic "BOOOOMMM BBAAAYYYYBBBAAAYYYY" clip from the show, along with him jumping off a boat and ripping up a field with a backhoe.

A historian also claimed that taking these items out of the ground just destroys history. Rick countered, saying it shouldn't be left to rust.
Anyone else happen to see it? What did you think?

I didn't see the show but I think the way Rick Savage portrays metal detectorists is deplorable.I do however agree that saving relics from rusting and trying to preserve them is better than them being left in the ground.

He was off the battlefield but some newbie will drive down there and be on Federal property and get arrested because of that moron.

He has caused an up roar in the Archeological community. All the hard work we do …to do things right he destroys in one episode. Then you have sites like this pop up against him that clump all relic and artifacts

So Rick Savage said it shouldn't be left to rust. Why is it on his TV show everything comes out of the ground looking real perfect, it don't even have dirt crusted on it.
